The Indifference Card.

It's sorta like this. There comes a point where I just let things roll by. The sweet, the sour, the stale, the fresh, the raw, the bland. And I'm at that point. Maybe everything is too overwhelming for me to respond. Or maybe I'm just procrastinating the inevitable. *one big shrug* is the way I've been these two weeks. The indifference card is being played. Well, not really. Coz' it's not like I'm not affected by it all; I am but I'm choosing to take deep breaths and smile at life. I'm not emo, honest to goodness. It's just called "blankness", I suppose. Indifference is a little too strong, maybe. It's that slight la-di-da feeling, now and then. And other times, it's just a *blink blink* moment. Or those hours when I just need some air. mmhmm.
Sometimes I'm also tempted to get back into the Tasha madstressexcitedupsetgibberjabber mode. But then I stop myself in time, and wonder what good it would do. I've learnt that one shouldn't assume. I've learnt that one should not catch oneself in shady situations. I've learnt that it's hard for me to not try to explain what's on my heart and at the same time, it's hard to try to explain it.
Yup. So there we go. An uninteresting post, to say the least. I don't even have pictures to post up because I haven't gotten them from Pet/Sarah/Gene/whoever else. Erheh sorry.

p.s. did u notice my pathetic attempt at making this post at least "colorful" to look at?hahahahha. I figured it's the least I can do.Lol.*rolls eyes at self*

The Manglish Lesson

I have come to realize that the most useful version of English in the world is Manglish. Pretty bold statement, I suppose you without any Malaysian blood may say. But if you really took some time to learn a few phrases in Manglish, sooner or later you're gonna wonder how you ever got through life without some of these words. SO. I have decided to list out a few common phrases for you [yes you, the non-Malaysian] to learn and hopefully one day, use. Don't get me wrong. I'm not forcing you or anything; I'm merely enlightening you so that *I* may use them myself in the days to come [and you will understand what I mean when I do].

The most famous "Lah".
"Lah" is undoubtedly the first sound of Manglish that foreigners will hear and probably pick up soon enough. It is an additive you can add at the end of a word or a sentence to strengthen the expression.
Here are some examples of how we use the "lah":
Okay-lah! (The different tone of the speaker determines how willingly the person is agreeing to the subject discussed)
Can-lah! (This is often used to beg for something or favor)
Cannot-lah! (Well, to refuse somebody's begging...)
Yes-lah! (An unwilling way to say yes, also depending on the tone of speaker)
No-lah! (To strengthen your disagreement or decline to something)
Come on-lah! (Normally used to persuade people to change their opinion or attitude)
You can use the "lah" in almost any situation. Like: good-lah, nice-lah, no-sweat-lah, Don't-lah like that!, very clever-lah,etc.

A few other suffixes include:

mah : Used to affirm a sentence but not as strongly as "lah". Used at the end of sentences.
Eg. "She's like that mah.."

nah : Derived from the Malay expression of "Nah!". Used when giving something to another person. Eg. "Nah, take this!"

meh : Used when asking questions, especially when a persion is skeptical of something.
Eg. "Really meh?"

ah : Derived from the Chinese expression "a". Used at the end of sentences, but unlike "meh", the question is rhetorical. Also used when asking a genuine question. Besides that, some people use it when referring to a subject before making a (usually negative) comment.
Eg. "Why is he like that ah?"
"Is that true ah?"
"My brother ah, always disturb me!"

lor : Used when explaining something.
Eg. "Like that lor!"

Some random words to know:

"Kacau" [kah-chao'] means 'disturb' or stir things up in Malay. There are friendly 'kacau' and unfriendly 'kacau's. Sometimea, we just phone or visit our friend to kacau him/her from 'peaceful' loneliness. And there are some guys who always like to kacau girls! And normally we don't welcome people who will just come and ka-ka-cau-cau when we are busy doing or enjoying something.
Eg. "I don't like that guy-lah. He always kacau me in class.

" Eh, little boy, ka-ka-cau-cau me only! Go go go!"

"Blur" > confused, out-of-it. Roughly equivalent to "spacey" in American slang.
Eg. "Aiyah, that Jane always very blur lah. Don't ask her about these kinda things."

"Slumber" > relaxed, laid-back; possibly a conflation of the Malay "selamba", meaning nonchalant, and the English "slumber".
Eg. "Ya, Jason slumber only walked in and took the camera with him without telling us"

These are only a handful of the words/phrases that are so engraved in us Malaysians, making us the unique and weird people we are. If you'd like to learn more, do indulge in the wonderful world of the INTERNET, maybe try searching places like
  • THIS wikipedia page

  • or THIS one

  • or this china version of manglish which i don't really use much

  • Or if you are more 'semangat' [haha, look it up], you could even check this out.

A stagnant song in dire need of a touch from ArielleTaiLiXian.

Down it all. Woe to him who let you fall.
Between spinning and speeding. Woe to him who left you weak.
All it took was just one strike.
    Burning out in broad daylight.
    No resolve to stand upright.
Squeeze it 'til the tracks left in your palm are purple-blue
Can't believe the hue could come from you.

    [blank space for Arielle's contributions]

Nice? I made this for Arielle the butterfly queen a long time ago. Painstakingly cut each little hole with a penknife, trying hard not to slice the wrong sections and ruin the white card paper. I like the result. So far, being home has been a big mess of ups and downs. Put them together and I guess you'd get an equal ratio. Which I suppose is good. There ARE a lot of nice things going on. And it IS after all only my first week here. Wow. One week already huh. Gotta get moving and do all I wanna do here.

    Nelvie!

ahhhahahah. buttaaaa.. i just wanted to put your name there for fun. Stress ar? ekekekekekkekeekekke.

I'm waiting on the pictures we've taken so far, before I can nicely update you on what I've been up to.Visuals are important. hehe. Oh look what I found! I'd never seen these pictures before until yesterday when i received a cd containing a big bunch from Arielle. thanks MUAKKKK doll!!

This was Christmas '05 at Grace P.J. Oh yeah, I just discovered that PetalingJaya is officially a city on its own now. YAY, that makes it a lot easier to describe to foreigners.

This was also in Dec '05 when the foursome had our reunion at The Curve with the firetruck ahahaha. Oh, and as you should know by now, that's Pet [or Petrina]. She should be here with me ber-holidaying now!! But she's having fun in Aussie and NZ later with Arielle, so nevermind lah. At least we had our Penang trip. Which was really fun, eh Pet? lol. *liCk*

DANCE always makes me happyyyy ahahah.cheesy but hey, it's MY blog. Would have been fun if I had stayed for the Malaysian First Open Championship..but school here started at that time, so ...sigh..nevermind, one day we'll get together and do summin' just for fun. We'll get Charity to dance with us too coz she kicks ass. And of course ARIELLLEEE must come back too. We need her hips. hehehehe. Oh the good ol' days.

    5minute pink confession in Manglish.

Actually I dunno how to explain it lor. I don't know him well and I don't have a crush on him. Really, I don't. But for some straanngge reason, his voice is in my head every now and then. He has like this strong accent that is so intriguing and makes me wanna just sit and listen. damn butaa rite?! i dunno lah, but confirm i will pandai pandai find more ways to do just that. Sit and listen. ahahahahha. Pet, before u give me your *pet look*, no, it's not THaT one.lol.

Random but useful informasi to the world : i am NOT a stalker and i am not lesbian. though that chick the other day.................

and another thing. i heart Sarah Lim Shu Yi. And I've always tried to protect her [even when we were this small, apparently haha] AND even if sometimes to her exasperation. But yeah.

So what's my point? You, mister. Yes, YOU,you know who you are, stop grinning to yourself. Remember, I'm watching you like a hawk, so don't make any 'funny' moves. May the first one home win. hahahaha..

    ok.back to work,joni.

    Featuring...Pt.II

    Meet Miss Veronica. I've described her before,really [see July23rd2005 post].wow.almost a year ago.scary.
Anyway, I thought I'd feature yet another budding photographer. She picked up photography QUITE recently and well, I'm sure she'll be glad to let into her
lilpictureworld. Italy is one big beautiful scene, I'm sure you'll notice. Her black&whites are really nice [click the pic of the baby when u get there]. I'm being random here. I heart Nica. We were "the best". *hands up in air motion* eh,girl? :) [sorry, inside joke] MUAHKKk.

On a different note, today my day was made better when I stumbled upon the admission that I'm an influence to you. I didn't know that. I feel honored. Don't change that list for a while, ok? haha. Thanks.

P.S. And for the record, you're an inspiration. Uh huh. Isn't that scary.

    *blink*

I don't like it when you press "Stop" in the middle of a song.
I'd rather you turn the volume down slowly THEN stop.
I guess I need a nice conclusion. Or the illusion of one.

My inspiration for this post came from a lyric I just read.

    Membuatku terjatuh dan terjatuh lagi
    Membuatku merasakan yang t'lah terjadi
Semua yang terbaik dan yang terlewati
Semua yang terhenti tanpa ku akhiri

I liked that last line. A rough translation :

Making me fall and fall again
    Making me feel what's past
All the best, and all that's missed
All that's stopped without me ending it.

Like that abrupt feeling I get when you press Stop.
When you don't end what you started in the first place.
    The it's-gone-but-something's-still-hanging-somewhere feeling
like a thin silver thread of web. hardly visible, but there.

I really don't have a point in this post.
    I'm homesick.
    And it's not going away.

Word Vomit. i apologize.do not read.

I'd give a lot if they would teach me how to dance freely
    and just be me.
I'd breathe easier if they told me that I'm doing it right
and that it's okay to be me.
I mess up. I trip. I stray. I break. under the pressure of it all.
And sometimes when it's too sharp, I just get numb from the fall
Could a kind soul reach into mine,
and put the warmth back inside?
Could they hold this heart ever so gently and nurse it back to life?
Could they search a little more and remove the splinters
    cut away the cancer
    suck out all the waste
Could they let me be me?
If she'd only see what I've truly become
If he'd only believe in what I could be
If they saw my thoughts spread out, heard it loud,
Would they let me be me?
I know, I know. You don't have to tell me how crap this post is.
I'll probably regret ever typing this by tomorrow.
    [another day:yeah, i regretted it.]

A reward in exchange of a better title for this song.

    Shiraz
    [25th March 2006]
Soft and gentle. Constant, devoted joy.
    Tenderly…tenderly we sway
She watches from the shelter of her existence.
She yearns for a chance, she thirsts for what could be what should be
    Desires…she desires..

And she asked me how, how does it happen, please?
And she asked me how, how does it feel, this bliss?
And she asked me why, I try and I try I can’t simulate this too,
It’s so hard to do, can’t seem to get through

Sense surreal. The sick sweetness keels me almost to my knees
    And I like it.
In her chambers, the sweet sickness keels her almost to her knees
    And she hates it.
You’re so terrified of change, yet it’s what you crave
Unlock your confine, come taste this wine
You’re so terrified of change, yet it’s what you crave
Unlock your confine, come taste this wine.

    Yesteryears impair your view
    Numbness soon became your tune
    Bygones drape your hollowed eyes
As you bleed tears, say goodbye

I stole this. But we shall call it "quoting".

I read Bailey's post and can't help but quote. It's so unfortunate. And more and more girls are beginning to realize how true this is.

"The moment you hear that a GUY is an amazing dancer... immediately you will ask or KNOW that he is GAY...WHY is it that STRAIGHT men are so damn boring? They won't dance... won't get involved in anything interesting at all... they just stone around playing Dota & shit... Then all the girls end up falling for gay men... and the straight men get jealous and start insulting the gay men... COME ON! The ratio of women : men is already 2 : 1... and our options are lessening and lessening by the minute."

    Can I hear an Amen?

The masscomers call this a "Filler Post".I'm jst a tagged victim.

One song..from your early childhood.---> "It's MISSING!! Kids' 9 is missing! [kids' 9 is missing?!] whoa whoa whoa whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.."

One song.. you are associating with your first big love.---> PROBABLY "All I have to give" Backstreet Boys coz i was into them then.i was eleven,so stop rolling on the floor.

One song.. which reminds you of one of your holidays.---> Ocean by Michelle Branch. this one is for sure. coz i listened to it while island hopping, with the sea water spraying on my face on a speedboat. and i remember thinking 'how appropriate'.and i was feeling nostalgic at that time too. *blink* ok. enuff joni.

    Into the North

"Oh that's a pretty color.." she thought to herself as the scenery whizzed past the car window. She took it all in silently in the backseat. "Cow..big tree..lil' tree..cow..paddy field..baby cow-calf aww...corn field..camel..cow.....wait,CAMEL???" But there it was right smack in the middle of nowhere-near-a-zoo-and-in-the-wrong-country. Strange. She was on her way to Cambodia for a regular visa run. Except she'd never done it in AngkorWat's resident country before. But she was glad she'd get a Cambodian stamp on her passport. It would be the fifth country she'd ever visited. Fifth. Ah well, 'tis okay. After, she's only twenty. Plenty of time to explore the rest of the world once she's got her....ahem...accounts secured?
Darrel recently visited Cambodia and I saw the beautiful pictures he took. SO a tiny fraction of me ridiculously expected to see at least some greenery or old historic-looking houses when I stepped into the country. Instead, a bleak desert-like red-sanded wide-road-to-nothingness greeted me. Oh, and some horny men who'd obviously not seen a city girl in shocking pink in a long while. Living on Nana Street, though, has trained me to keep the im-calm-and-not-bothered-by-u-but-come-closer-and-it'll-be-a-different-story look.hehe.
Fifteen minutes, 300 Baht, and two more horny men later, I was back in Thailand. Hm. So much for historical-anythings. All I saw was a random casino and red sand. Never judge a country by its...border? Because Darrel's pics were so different! [i actually have ONE picture of me there but cam battery's gone so can't load it.]
One thing I noticed on the Thai side, though [apart from the camel!], is that God rocks at shaping trees. Yep, you heard me. Trees. I wish I could have stopped and taken pics of all the cool trees I saw! One particular kind were/was so heavy with these DEEP RED flowers. They looked so LUSH. And totally out of place in the bone-dry fields. [It's summer now.]

[Do imagine a picture of a signboard that says "Surin Country Lodge", coz it's supposed to be here but won't load right now]

That's where we headed next. It's about an hour from Cambodia's border and belongs to Un.Paul the guy who houses me. The various flowers and orchids he has there! I mean, just the bunga tahi ayam [b.t.a.] alone was impressive okay. Who thought b.t.a. could come in such brightness and variety. Lol. And it was in this timely hour that the camera battery made its way to Panasonic heaven. *shakes fists* Just in time to miss the white duckies, baby buffalo [baby pig=piglet.baby buffalo=buffet?], and omg the CATFISH!! Some fishfood was called in to show me the fish and I was like," Err..it's just fish right,so what's the deal?" But when the first fish came up, my reaction was a Kodak moment, I assure you. The fish were FREAKICIOUSLY HUGE! We're talking longer than my arm catfish, okay! Each mouth could easily swallow a baby's head. [*blink* rather morbid thought, now innit?Sorry.] And there was a LOT of 'em,too.
Waitlah, I shall definitely go back there one day and load up on pictures. Although all we have are manual cameras and one Kodak digital which isn't too cool. Not that I know much about photography anyway.

So everybody now together "Dont stop, get it, get it..we are your captains in it..steady,watch me navigate,hahahaha..."

    Educational Enlightenment

The theremin or thereminvox is one of the earliest fully electronic musical instruments.

The theremin is unusual in that it requires no physical contact in order to produce music and was, in fact, the first musical instrument designed to be played without being touched. The instrument consists of an array of circuitry including two antennas around which the user moves his or her hands to play.

So what does it sound like, huh? Actually I had a list of bands or songs that u've probably heard where they had used the theremin. But I can't find it now. Basically, it has this wahwah sound..they used it for that out-of-this-world sounds [so they thought at that time, anyway]. It's quite fascinating, I'm intrigued, really. Would buy one if I could find/afford/had time to look for one. Wanna hear some theremin?

    Click Me

I think this one is super cool coz I've seen a video of it being played, and it looks SUPER HARD, okay. So this must have taken yonks to learn! I mean, it's a CHOPIN piece, which for non-pianists' info, is hard to play on PIANO, let alone GUESS on the theremin, phfeww! [Did I just say "super cool"?! sheesh, Nannue, you're rubbing off on me, stop it. :D ]

    Gray
    [5th Feb 2006]

Trailing my fingers across your skin
My velvet secrets out for a spin
Believe this will slip away, fade away, disappear
Fast forward/Rewind to a time that you'll remember
when it was not all so black and white, darkness and light
    Do you remember?

It's time you made up your mind
To put out the light or ignite
We've been on this carousel way too many rounds and I'm thinking over
I won't wait til it gets out of line
Stop taking your time, wasting mine
Won't be okay with this gray.

Cut it deeper to see how much of me flows
Keep it bottled and watch as it grows
Take twenty when all you need is just one more
You look dark like a prince who has lost his crown
but kept the jewels in his stare
No matter what's said, detachment underplayed
    The colours fade..

It's time you made up your mind
To put out the light or ignite
We've going around and around and around and
I won't wait til it gets out of line
Stop taking your time, wasting mine
    Won't be okay..with this..gray.
